My journey in art began like most artists. I always drew since I can
remember. It was at Blair High School that
Mr. Gerald Garden and Mr Vince Melie began the first of my formal
art education. Great Teachers! After graduating I spent 3 years
in the US Army serving in Katterbach Germany with the 1st Armored
Division. Once back home I attended Pasadena
City College where I studied drawing, design and painting. Although my
heart was in art I never assumed it to be
more than just a hobby. I worked my day job and started a family having
2 wonderful daughters along the way.
I continued studying on my own perfecting the art
of stippling in pen & ink and buying painting books to continue to
teach
myself to paint. Eventually, I began taking on commissions for pen
& ink drawings and set painting aside. Soon I had prints
made of my work and began to sell prints online. I moved from
Pasadena to the town of Solvang on the Central Coast in 2005
and began to get involved with the local Artist Guilds here. I had
become very interested in California Impressionsist painting
and Plein Air painting. I began to paint again. Entering my pen &
ink and oil paintings I began to win awards for both and
sales continued. By now, I had sold pen & ink prints in just about
every State in the US including Hawaii and Alaska
as well as overseas in England, Germany, Australia and Canada.
I continue to pursue my quest of becoming a
competent painter and strive to perfect on canvas, or paper, the scenes
that
interest and surround me. I try and let nature tell the story in my
work. I want to capture the beauty of sunlight as it effects
the world I live in and not dramatize it for an artists sake. I want to
share what is seen everyday and bring moments of light
and time to the people who see my work.
